Lilianna Manahan's FUNKTION

I recently attended Lilianna Manahan's exhibit called FUNKTION in partnership with AC+632 at the 2/F Gallery in Greenbelt 5.  FUNKTION features her collection of furniture, lights, home accessories and objets.

I get very excited when I see young artists making a name for themselves and establishing their own style and aesthetic in the very competitive world of visual art.  When I received an invitation from Chito Vijandre and Ricky Toledo of Firma and AC+632 to attend Lilianna's exhibit, I must admit I was curious with what she was going to showcase.  I first met Lilianna when she was a student at Brent International School Manila.  She was the classmate of my younger brother Rally.  She always had a smile on her pretty face, very humble and unassuming.  I had not seen her for quite some time but when I heard that she went into creating art professionally, I was not a bit surprised.  Its in her genes. Her parents are both in the arts. Johnny Manahan who we fondly call Mr. M in the industry is the renowned director who actually studied art history and architecture. Her mother is the surface designer Tats Manahan.  Her grandmother, the late Elvira Manahan who I had the pleasure of working with when I was a young boy, was not only a bon vivant but a patroness of the art as well.

The Manahan Family came full force to support Lilianna.  Friends and colleagues were all at the event admiring her creations which I heard is selling really well.

It was nice to see Lilianna again after so many years and she is still the same sweet person today.  I was really impressed with her designs which are unique and interesting.  Just like the title of her exhibit, her works of art are useful things.  I am looking forward to seeing more of her creations in the very near future.  Congratulations Lilianna!

Thank You Chito & Ricky for the invite!

Lilianna Manahan’s FUNKTION will run from November 8-14 at the Gallery, 2/F Greenbelt 5, Ayala Center, Makati.  For inquiries please contact AC+632 at Tel 758.2564  ac632@pldtdsl.net
